Marathon Music for QuickTime 3&4Edition 2 |
The 3 and 4 versions of QuickTime feature a whole new set of high-quality MIDI instruments. In most cases, MIDI soundtracks will sound better than ever before. But if you played Marathon 1 with the new QuickTime installed, you probably know why I said “in MOST cases.” And I think most people will agree that the music didn't sound that exciting under QT 2.x either.
This file is an attempt to solve this ear-torturing problem. What is it?
It's nothing more than the original Marathon 1 Music file, but with rearranged instruments. I did my best to make some songs sound like they do on the Marathon CD, and for the others I just combined instruments to my taste. The music itself is unchanged, but will sound different, and I hope: better. Just check it out, and if it makes you puke, remember that there's an icon on your desktop called ‘Trash.’
Of course this file is for free, but due to copyright, you may only download it if you own Marathon 1. The reason is that the file still contains the original compositions.
This is the second edition of this file. The first edition was created in April 1998, this new version is created in April 2000. The differences with the old version are that I changed some more instruments in a few songs, and most important: I tuned down the volume to 67% compared to the previous version. This was really necessary because the old file played too loud, it even caused distortion. Now you can hear yourself kick ass again without having to turn off the music!
The new music file still works under QT 2.x, but because the instruments sound different, it's possible that it'll sound more disgusting than the original music, or that certain sounds are missing. I haven't tested it so try it at your own risk. It will probably sound too silent anyway because of the reduced volume.
